Life lessons that come to us even once we thought we knew it all

Today I learned that people will be sneaky and paranoid even when the law is on their side so how can I possibly expect them to stick their necks out for real legal reform of any kind when actual threats are possible?
Begin each entry with - Today I learned... OR I learned today...
Do not add a title to your entry.
One "life lesson" per entry please.
Try to keep your contributions limited to authentic lessons you've learned recently.
Be concise. Keep entries down to a sentence so they inspire others to think on their own ideas of the lesson and how it moves them.
Let's try to keep labels to a minimum so subject matter is easier to find. Topics should be labeled as "ups and downs", "digging deep", "silliness", "good times", or "I can do it"
